Goal Setting 2023 - Reflect Refresh Reset

January is a great time to Reflect, Refresh and Reset; not because it is a magic month but because it symbolises new beginnings for many of us and Goal Setting forms the Reset component of the 3Rs.

With only 3% of us setting goals and only 8% of that 3% achieving them I hope this quick message motivates and provides you with winning goal setting structure.

There are 2 main trains of thought around goal setting.

1. Goals enable us to imagine an objective and create a pathway to it.

2. Goals are limiting and quash true potential.

3. I suggest there is another viewpoint which is that a realistic goal gives us something desirable to strive for that with planning and intention is achievable and worth celebrating.

Once a goal is achieved it then provides us with a new point of reference. A place to reassess our position, consider our options and decide whether to rest there (there is nothing wrong with being content even happy in the present), move sideways, or move forward.

Assuming you subscribe to the latter view there are 4 key best practices to goal setting.

1. Apply SMARTER and the 7Cs which you can more information on at ripple.net.nz in my Goal Setting VLOG of January 2022. These enable us to plan and strategise making us 42% more likely to achieve them.

2. Break down the goal into specific, regular, achievable steps leading you towards the objective until it is achieved. One of the biggest mistakes we make with goals is setting them and stopping there.

3. Make habits of each of these steps before progressing to the next.  A habit enables us to automatically perform the step freeing us up to focus on the next one.

4. Understand your accountability needs. Some of us prefer and can hold ourselves accountable and others prefer to feel accountable to others. If you need an accountability buddy to achieve your goals seek one out.

I wish you well as you reset for 2023 and if we can help you achieve a goal for yourself or your business, please reach out to me at kayleen@ripple.net.nz.
